Please talk to the Interest Groups Co-ordinator who would be delighted to arrange as much support as you would like. U3A National Site U3A Regional Network	What is The University of the Third Age? Our name indicates that, after the first age of childhood and full-time education, and the second age of work and raising a family, there comes the third age of retirement when people are free to get together to follow interests for which they may previously not have had time. Who can join and what is the cost? Anyone who has reached their Third Age and is no longer in full time employment may join. 2009/2010 membership costs £15 or £27 per couple at the same address. How does Faringdon U3A operate? Members with similar interests meet during the day in small groups to share knowledge through the Group Leader in a relaxed and non-competitive atmosphere. New friendships are formed, new interests are kindled and new skills are learned. Additionally there is a General Meeting for all members at 2.30pm on the second Thursday in the month in the Corn Exchange. We start with a welcome from the Chairman, general notices and news from Group Leaders. The main event is usually an interesting speaker, followed by refreshments and a chance to meet Group Leaders and socialise. Who does the day-to-day business? The AGM is held in April when a new twelve person committee is formed with members initially elected to serve for three years. The committee meets six times a year to set and collect membership fees, control finances, agree the monthly programme of speakers, promote the group, arrange Summer and Christmas Lunches, annual outing and Freshers' Fair/Open House, and generally support the membership activities and group leaders. Who are the group leaders? In U3A there is no distinction between those who learn and those who teach. Group Leaders are themselves members and are often participants in other groups. It could be you. What does one get from the U3A? The main aim of U3A is to advance the education of retired people and to assist them in pursuing their interests within a social environment. It is run by its members for its members. There are support networks at both regional and national levels.
